Philippa was manager at Stanhope from January 1980 and subsequently became owner in July 2004

We aim to provide a happy and secure environment for the children in our care, with the help of a curriculum which is stimulating physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

We pride ourselves on our capacity to respond to each child individually, according to his or her own needs and rate of development.

We do our best to ensure that all staff and children are fair to each other and to themselves and that the nursery is characterised by an atmosphere of mutual trust and encouragement.

The Early Years Foundation stage provides the statutory framework for young children's learning and development from birth.

We consistently achieve the high standard of food safety by the environmental health.

Events

We have a varied programme of regular events for you and your child.

We encourage parents to help out when we go on visits or theatre trips.

  • We have weekly child Yoga sessions for children aged 2yrs 6mths upwards
  • Regular visits from the Book Bus a local council initiative
  • A hairdresser visits every 6 weeks
  • Birthday and leaving parties: you provide the cake and we do the rest
  • Regular cooking activities which the children which they can then take home
  • Parents evening, you receive a detailed report on your child and you are able to discuss your child’s progress, also to look around the nursery at leisure and view activities each room has to offer.
  • We have a professional photographer who visits once a year
  • Visits to the local fire station, police and ambulance when possible.
  • Other visits to the museum etc
  • Also we attend the theatre when possible at the De Montfort Hall and the Leicester University David Attenborough building Embrace Arts

We will also update you on any extra events we may be holding throughout the year such as Bring and Buy cake sale.

Our newsletter is published 4 times a year.

Policies and procedures

We aim to provide the best possible care and education in Stanhope Day Nursery please ask the manager to view the policies and procedures and also to discuss any queries you may have about the content. Our policies include – Health and Safety – Parental Involvement- Safeguarding Children – EYFS.

Complaints - you are entitled to make a formal complaint about any aspect of your child’s experience that gives you cause for concern. The procedure for making a complaint is available for you as well as the telephone number for Ofsted.

Support Us

Stanhope nursery provides child care services for children under 5 years the fees received cover the total running costs of the nursery we try to keep these at a reasonable rate so we subsidise by holding various events during the year.

Support can be through a variety of ways – baking and buying at our’ bring and buy’ cake sale.

By collecting vouchers from Sainsbury’s and Tescos where we are able to exchange for equipment for the nursery.

Our Nursery

stanhope day  nursery admissionsStanhope House Day Nursery Leicester, is open for 50 weeks of the year.

Childcare is provided at our Leicester day nursery for full days only, from 1 day to 5 consecutive days per week – details of our nursery fees and terms and conditions of the nursery are available through our website.

Nursery Opening Times

Monday – Friday 8.15am – 5.45 pm.

3 and 4 year olds are entitled to a funded nursery education place from the term following their 3rd birthday. Our staff can inform you of the entitlement which we can automatically arrange via the local authority. Further information can be found at www.leicester.gov.uk/nursery-education-grant-for-3-4-yr-olds

We also accept child care vouchers.

We are registered to take 37 children for each session. A waiting list is operated using clear criteria for allocation of places.

Our Nursery

stanhope hse 50 origSituated in a converted Victorian villa, Stanhope House Day Nursery has been operating as a nursery for over 30 years, so we've had plenty of opportunity to adapt the building to our needs.

Our four nursery rooms have been specially adapted to suit the needs and requirements for each age group.

With our extensive, enclosed gardens, our children have plenty of opportunity to play outside.

Play

Stanhope House Day Nursery is also situated in its own secure grounds. The high fenced garden provides a secluded part lawn and part paved playground so that children can play outside throughout the year (click on an image for more information).

 Outside our children can:

  • Ride on bikes and toys.
  • Play in the garden on the permanent play equipment

Safety

At Stanhope Nursery safety is always our first prioirty. We have the following safety and security devices in operation:

  • A biometric door entry system

  • When children are playing in the garden both the front and back gate are bolted.

  • Off road parking

  • All staff are Health and Safety trained

  • All staff are enhanced CRB checked

  • All visitors have to sign in. 

Nutrition

All meals are cooked in our own kitchen and make full use of fresh fruit and vegetables.

We consistently achieve the highest standard in the Food Hygiene Rating award which can be viewed online at http://ratings.food.gov.uk/Welcome.aspx

Our menu (pdfsample) is devised on a four week basis and we cater for all dietary requirements.

We provide for example, a vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal every day. We offer milk and water to drink. Sugary drinks are avoided.

Our Nursery

Our nursery staff are trained and qualified to the highest standards.This high level of training reflects the commitment of Stanhope House Day Nursery to staff development.  Our excellent record in retaining staff indicates that our staff consider Stanhope House Day Nursery to be a good place to work and to advance their careers. It also provides continuity and coherence of care of our children.


Your child will receive support from an experienced member of staff responsible for your child’s individual needs known as the key person. Although the key person will be your main point of contact, all nursery staff will be happy to feedback on your child’s development progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you.  We have key nursery staff trained in safeguarding children – managing child behaviour – health and safety - paediatric first aid – adult first aid – special needs co ordinator. 

Staff are trained to level 3 status in childcare and in the EYFS - click link to view EYFS –Early Years Foundation Stage.

We also have a staff member completing their Early Years Professional status graduate course.
